TRAINING

My speciality is in teaching the skills of NLP: Neuro-Linguistic Programming, in a practical, accessible easily applied way.

This new psychology of understanding human thinking, motivation and peak performance teaches you how to run your own brain and be in control of your own mind and emotions. It gives you the ability to not only to overcome problems, but also to excel yourself and make your life wonderful. It is the study of the thinking patterns of success- in any field.

 

Teaching Methods

I do not teach academically. People need to relax and have a fun enjoyable experience and to try things out for themselves in order not just to learn effectively, but also to be able to put what they have learned into effect.

Doctor Richard Bandler, the originator of NLP, frequently defines NLP as being
“An attitude and a methodology, which leave behind a trail of techniques.”
The techniques themselves are not the true NLP.
The true NLP is an attitude of curiosity, openness and adventure, and a way of being able to find out what works in people’s minds in order for them to be able to get the best out of life. As each person is different, I enable each one to discover what works best for them.

 

I recommend the following modules:

Personal Confidence

Now, I am not suggesting that your workforce lacks confidence, though all of us could probably benefit from being more confident in at least some situations. True confidence is based on knowing that you can achieve what you need and want to in life, and also, very importantly, being able to deal with challenging situations in a resourceful positive way. It means that instead of being at the mercy of our emotions, we can have our emotions supporting us.

Areas covered in this module include:

  • Five ways to Feel Good!
  • How your mind creates feelings and moods, and why
  • How to deal with negative emotions
  • How to prevent, de-fuse and overcome stress
  • How to detach from and rise above problems
  • The basis of confidence and
  • How to motivate yourself.

With seventeen years experience, and learning from and working with the most innovative and expert pioneers of NLP, I have designed this module to be far more effective than the usual ‘breathe deeply’ type of advice. It can be presented within one working day.

 

Customer Service and Communication Skills

This module is not just for people working in so called customer service (the ‘complaints department’) though the principles you need to handle dissatisfied, frustrated, irate, disgruntled, impatient and sometimes abusive customers, are always going to be useful to anyone dealing with customers, and for that matter, anyone dealing with ‘People’ in any situation.

In fact this module is not about just dealing with demanding situations with other people, it is also about getting people to trust you, to feel good about you and to feel wonderful in themselves. It is about being able to see the other person’s point of view in a way that makes it far easier to get them to see yours. It is about being able to encourage, inspire and motivate others to assist you in getting what you want in a way that also gets them what they want.

Areas covered include:

  • The subtle secrets of rapport
  • How to get people's attention
  • Respectful assertiveness and how to take over the lead
  • Handling difficult people
  • How to detach and avoid taking things personally
  • How to see things from the other person’s point of view
    and know how to put your own point of view across more effectively
  • Seeing and setting up the best possible ‘Win-Win’ situation,
    the importance of ‘Win-Win or No Deal!’
    And why it is so important to be willing to be unreasonable.
  • How to make people feel good
    and how to inspire and motivate them.
  • Simple telephone skills
  • Simple yet surprising language patterns.

This module builds on essential skills form the first one. However as a result, although there is quite a lot of material, the ideas can be learned more quickly. Without customisation, this module is a fairly tight fit into one day. If however, you want to have this customised and build in role play for specific situations in particular departments, then it can be completed comfortably in two short days. Either way, there is a considerable advantage in momentum in having the two modules consecutively.

Again, if you have come across NLP or NLP training before, you may be surprised at some of the novel approaches and the subtleties within the more familiar techniques. These are the differences that make the differences!

 

Advanced Communication and Influencing Skills

This is probably for key workers, for people who are selling and negotiating and for managers whose communication skills and ability to influence are vital. This is both because of the depth and range of the material concerned and the commitment required to take it on and use it.

Areas covered include:

  • Why do people communicate so poorly
  • Reading people
  • Clarifying communication
  • Why people assume so much and how to constructively challenge their assumptions
  • The structure of influence
  • The five kinds of language of influence
  • Sleight of mouth patterns

As with all my training, the learning is experiential rather than academic. However the richness of content means that I recommend three successive days for this module. And whereas the support materials are a useful reminder of the principles of the first two modules, they are essential as a reference to this third one. I further recommend that you arrange occasional in-house skills and familiarity practice sessions to fully get the benefit of this highly valuable material.

In fact, when you consider that few people even on full NLP practitioner courses get to learn this material thoroughly, you will start to realise the significant competitive edge that this will give you. Consider for instance that the worlds leading marketers and most influential opinion makers are consciously or unconsciously using these principles, and that therefore, as a result of your modest investment in time, money and attention, you will be amongst an elite.

INDIVIDUAL COACHING

NLP Coaching

I am able to coach you in all aspects of NLP, especially the subjects mentioned above and to customise my coaching for individual managers and key workers. I can work with individuals or still coach intensively with groups of up to six well matched participants.

 

Stress and Burnout Prevention and Recovery

The 2003/4 Stress and Health at Work Study (SHAW) indicated that nearly 1 in 5 of all working individuals thought their job was very or extremely stressful and over half a million people believed that their work related stress was making them physically ill.

Stress has been specifically implicated in heart disease, eating disorders, stroke, insomnia, ulcers, accident proneness, cancer, decreased immunity, chronic headaches, diabetes, depression, substance abuse, chronic pain, irritable bowel syndrome and chronic fatigue.

In fact, estimates are that 50 to 80% of all physical disorders have psychosomatic or stress related origins (Rice, 1992).

 

The personal and interpersonal management skills which I teach in my courses are a foundation to the coping strategies that people need to overcome stress.

Additionally I can facilitate people in setting their personal and business priorities in a way that streamlines their time management and is therefore likely to lower stress and prevent the risk of burnout.

For those often essential individuals who have put too much effort for too long into what they sensed was vital; pushing themselves beyond the threshold of efficiency (burnout does not happen to those who were never committed…) I have ways of enabling them to relax way below the plateau level that they thought was relaxation, so that they can far more rapidly recuperate their energies. Once they are recovered, I can help them re-asses their vision, review their strategies, learn new responses and regain their enthusiasm to take on their tasks more satisfyingly and efficiently.

The subtleties that I have learned from the most successful pioneers of NLP and from other related disciplines, and having pioneered innovations that accelerate learning the Alexander Technique, mean that I have powerful, successful and cutting edge methods unknown by over 95% of other consultants.

 

Personal And Career Development

There seems to be a sudden growth in the number of personal and ‘executive’ coaches these days using turnkey off the shelf systems. Although the middle management or HR background that many of them have is very useful in the context of work related coaching, it does not usually give them the depth, flexibility and insight afforded by seventeen years at the sharp end of NLP.

It is this experience:

  • That gives an extra dimension to setting your goals in a way that they are much more likely to fulfil your true inner desires;
  • Will often enable you to find surprising, unexpected solutions to achieving what you want (especially where the known conventional solutions have already failed to produce the desired result);
  • That will enable you to realistically build stronger and more reliable bridges between where you are now and where you want to be;
  • And will streamline how you manage your priorities, your time and your resources.

Remember, I am a facilitator, not someone who thinks he knows what is best for your life or your business. I draw on and draw out your own vast store of inner wisdom in order to enable you to excel yourself and make your life wonderful.

 

Performance Coaching

I use two approaches to performance coaching.

  • One is to mobilise and streamline the resources, skills and strategies that you often did not know that you already had.
  • The other is to use the NLP principle of Modelling, whereby we draw on the beliefs thinking patterns and behaviour of someone who is already a shining example of what you want to achieve.

Neither method requires me to have any significant skill or knowledge in what you want to achieve. My skills are in drawing out what is hidden to most people, and yet can be made plain and easily acted on.

The first can be very rapid. I once worked with a professional tennis player who at the time was seeded at 18 th level in world ranking. After just a fifty minute session, he suddenly started beating players seeded at ninth level, i.e. about twice as good as he was previously. Similarly, an insurance agent more than doubled his business after working for only a few hours with me.

The second often takes somewhat longer, though it is useful for developing in new areas or for going significantly beyond your previous best.

Although I do not consider myself qualified to conduct sales training (though I do convert a high proportion of my enquiries) this second method is excellent for bringing members of a sales team close to, or sometimes even exceeding the standard of the most successful performers!
