My main speciality in business training seminars or courses is in teaching the skills of NLP: Neuro-Linguistic Programming, in a practical, accessible easily applied way.

This new psychology of understanding human thinking, motivation and peak performance teaches you how to run your own brain and be in control of your own mind and emotions. It gives you the ability to not only to overcome problems, but also to excel yourself and make your life wonderful. It is the study of the thinking patterns of success- in any field.

Teaching Methods

I do not teach academically. People need to be able to relax and have a fun enjoyable experience and to try things out for themselves in order not just to learn effectively, but also to be able to put what they have learned into effect.

Doctor Richard Bandler, the originator of NLP, frequently defines NLP as being

“An attitude and a methodology, which leave behind a trail of techniques.”

The techniques themselves are not the true NLP:

The true NLP is an attitude of curiosity, openness and adventure, and a way of being able to find out what works in people’s minds in order for them to be able to get the best out of life. As each person is different, I enable each one to discover what works best for them.

I recommend the following modules:

Personal Confidence

Now, I am not suggesting that your workforce lacks confidence, though all of us could probably benefit from being more confident in at least some situations. True confidence is based on knowing that you can achieve what you need and want to in life, and also, very importantly, being able to deal with challenging situations in a resourceful positive way. It means that instead of being at the mercy of our emotions, we can have our emotions supporting us.

Areas covered in this module include:

  • Five ways to Feel Good!
  • How your mind creates feelings and moods, and why
  • How to deal with negative emotions
  • How to prevent, de-fuse and overcome stress
  • How to detach from and rise above problems
  • The basis of confidence and
  • How to motivate yourself.

With over twenty years experience, and learning from and working with the most innovative and expert pioneers of NLP, I have designed this module to be far more effective than the usual ‘breathe deeply’ type of advice. It can be presented within one working day.

Customer Service and Communication Skills

This module is not just for people working in so called customer service (the ‘complaints department’) though the principles you need to handle dissatisfied, frustrated, irate, disgruntled, impatient, difficult and sometimes abusive customers, are always going to be useful to anyone dealing with customers, and for that matter, anyone dealing with ‘People’ in any situation.

In fact this module is not about just dealing with demanding situations with other people, it is also about getting people to trust you, to feel good about you and to feel wonderful in themselves. It is about being able to see the other person’s point of view in a way that makes it far easier to get them to see yours. It is about being able to encourage, inspire and motivate others to assist you in getting what you want in a way that also gets them what they want.

Areas covered include:

  • The subtle secrets of rapport
  • How to get people’s attention
  • Respectful assertiveness and how to take over the lead
  • Handling difficult people
  • How to detach and avoid taking things personally
  • How to see things from the other person’s point of view
    and know how to put your own point of view across more effectively
  • Seeing and setting up the best possible ‘Win-Win’ situation,
    and the importance of ‘Win-Win or No Deal!’
  • Why it is so important to be willing to be unreasonable.
  • How to make people feel good
    and how to inspire and motivate them
  • Simple telephone skills
  • Simple yet surprising language patterns

This module builds on essential skills from the first one. However as a result, although there is quite a lot of material, the ideas can be learned more quickly. Without customisation, this module is a fairly tight fit into one day. If however, you want to have this customised and build in role play for specific situations in particular departments, then it can be completed comfortably in two short days. Either way, there is a considerable advantage in momentum in having the two modules consecutively.

Again, if you have come across NLP or NLP training before, you may be surprised at some of the novel approaches and the subtleties within the more familiar techniques. These are the differences that make the differences!

Advanced Communication and Influencing Skills

This is probably for key workers, for people who are selling and negotiating and for managers whose communication skills and ability to influence are vital. This is both because of the depth and range of the material concerned and the commitment required to take it on and use it.

Areas covered include:

  • Why do people communicate so poorly
  • Reading people
  • Clarifying communication
  • Why people assume so much and how to constructively challenge their assumptions
  • The structure of influence
  • The five kinds of language of influence
  • Sleight of mouth patterns

As with all my training, the learning is experiential rather than academic. However the richness of content means that I recommend three successive days for this module. And whereas the support materials are a useful reminder of the principles of the first two modules, they are essential as a reference to this third one. I further recommend that you arrange occasional in-house skills and familiarity practice sessions to fully get the benefit of this highly valuable material.

In fact, when you consider that few people even on full NLP practitioner courses get to learn this material thoroughly, you will start to realise the significant competitive edge that this will give you.
