Fears Phobias Anxiety and Panic attacks
I have gentle, respectful, comfortable ways to rapidly and effectively get you over fears and phobias. these include: Fear of flying; Fear of heights; Fear of traveling; Fear of water; Agoraphobia - fear of open spaces; Claustrophobia - fear of being enclosed; Fears or Phobias of Spiders, Snakes, Dogs or Birds and just about any other fear that may be getting in the way of someone living life happily, healthily, safely and to the full.
Phobias form very quickly, as if someone was throwing a switch. They can often be turned off, usually permanently, just as quickly. The main thing that takes time in dealing with a phobia is uncovering the original trigger. This can be done surprisingly comfortably.
Fears and anxieties such as the fear of flying have usually developed over time, often by dwelling on something that never actually happened to ourselves. Again, the process can be reversed and the worries gently dismantled.
Panic attacks, which are often actually caused by the fear of having one, can be quite a challenge to most practitioners. However, I have been having significant successes in dealing with these recently. One lady recently had been suffering from them for 28 years. She got over them in just a few hours.
Traumas and Abuse
I have many easy, respectful and surprisingly comfortable ways to defuse flashbacks and resolve unpleasant emotions and traumatic memories. Many people find they can trust me in order to deal with physical, emotional, sexual and other forms of abuse.
I do not use the usual forms of 'critical incident debriefing' as research suggests that it sometimes makes things worse.
Instead, the ways I work avoid reliving any of the memories or going over them in any detail. I only need enough detail to let me know what to do for you.
Our minds tend to hang on to past memories in order to learn from them. Once you have comfortably learned what you need from the past, you will automatically avoid situations or learn how to deal with them in the future. Your mind will then settle down and leave the past behind.
Moods and Depression
Very few people realise how many ways there are of rising above and dealing with the situations that have lead to depression. Most depression comes from frustration or not being able to see things working out in the future. I not only give you ways to shift the moods and to feel better regardless of the situation, but also ways to change the situations around you more easily.
Very often there is something we could do about a situation, but either the depression itself gets in the way or we are afraid to face up to something. As the old saying suggests, I can help you to have the courage and ability to change the things you can change, the serenity and some remarkably easy ways to accept those things you simply can't change, and to be clear enough to know the difference.
Ultimately if you are up to the challenge, I can teach you ways to feel good for no good reason at all, other than it is good for you and things seem to go better for us when we do.

A lot of stress comes from not wanting to say No, from needing to prove ourselves and from wanting people's approval too much. On the other hand it sometimes simply comes from an urgent situation and from trying to do too many things at once. Actually most of us are capable of So much more when we feel good. The stress is counterproductive.
The methods I use go way beyond the usual stress management techniques and get to the source of the matter. Some of the methods I use are quite surprising: it is not unusual for my clients to burst out laughing, as what seemed like insurmountable problems suddenly seem to have shrunk to little mole hills.
Confidence Self Esteem and Assertiveness
Confidence and self esteem usually boil down to knowing that you can get what you want and need.
Confidence can either be based on what you know how to do; your 'competence' or it can be that deep inner knowing that you have the resources, the courage and the persistence to handle the challenges that life gives you. I can help you to discover and develop both.
Self esteem is often more about whether we think others will 'esteem' or respect us. The truth is that however good, pleasant or generous you are, not everyone will or even can respect you. Some people are just too caught up in their own problems to even notice who you really are. If someone feels they are not clever enough, interesting enough, or they feel they have done something wrong that they thought others would not forgive them for, Then I can help them to recognise what is truly likeable about them, forgive themselves and realise that we only need a few good people to help us to achieve what we really want.
True assertiveness comes with that confidence and self esteem and knowing that when we tell others about our wants and needs in a respectful way, they are more likely to actually want help us to fulfil them. It also means being clear about our standards and being willing to walk away from those who do not wish to respect them. This could go as far as leaving a relationship, a friendship or a job. This can only be done easily when you are confident that there are enough people out there that will and do respect your standards and will treat you with the same level of respect that you give to them.
Feel Good and Self Motivation
Something that so very few people realise is that we do not need an excuse to feel good. We do not have to be dependent on external circumstances to trigger our happiness, we can actually make ourselves feel good from the inside. In fact even in some of the worst situations we can still feel good and therefore be in a much better state to be able to deal with them.
All the so called negative emotions are actually trying to make our lives better by trying to get us to avoid things that might be bad for us or getting us to learn from our mistakes. If we acknowledge these emotions in the right way, then they get their job done more easily and go away. Sometimes the emotions get stuck, but there are many ways to un-stick and resolve them if you know how.
Once you know how to feel good, you have many advantages. You no longer have to depend on other people's approval, so it is easier to think for yourself and decide what You want to do. Your mind is clearer and it is easier to plan your life. And because you can freely choose and plan your life and feel good, you naturally feel motivated to do the things you need to make your life even better.
Communication and Understanding and Motivating others
Once you know how to feel good, you can start to spread the feeling to others.
Many people have tried getting what they want by manipulating, ordering or bullying others. They simply did not know how to make someone feel good and make them enthusiastic about helping them.
Communication is every bit as much about listening to the other person, understanding the overall situation and even being able to see things from their point of view, even if you do not agree with them. I have specific and very effective ways for you to be able to do this much more clearly and accurately than usual.
We also need to understand how communication really works. Language has a hypnotic quality and so many of us have thrown away opportunities by unwittingly saying the wrong thing. When you know how to say the right things in the right way, you not only get much more of what you want, you create far better understanding, you sometimes even help people to automatically unravel their own problems and you make people feel good about helping you.

Alexander Technique
For profound relaxation, natural poise and coordination, improved performance, ease and efficiency, and to help with postural problems, neck, back, muscle and joint pains.
The Alexander Technique came out as the best way of dealing with chronic back pain in research carried out by the NHS and published in the British Medical Journal in August 2008. Its scope goes far further than this though.
It has within it, the basis of true choice: the ability to Not do what you would have ordinarily and habitually done. This is one of the most powerful tools for change that there is.
There are many books about the Alexander Technique, however I am currently writing about how you can learn the technique far more quickly, thoroughly and easily than ever before. Whereas teachers of the technique used to claim that you needed at least 30 sessions to just get to a basic level of proficiency (equivalent to scales and simple tunes if you were learning a musical instrument) I can lead most people to independence within 10 to 15 sessions.

The ways I work
Counselling
Counselling is excellent for just getting something off your chest. In fact a good counsellor will know when to keep quiet, not interrupt, not interpret, not question, just listen to exactly what you say and let you get it out.
This is excellent for venting frustrations or for when you feel no one would or could listen to your side of things. However once you have got things off your chest, most counsellors are trained to Not give advice or solutions. Instead, most of them try to get you in touch with your negative emotions. This in my opinion is the wrong way of working. You need practical solutions and you need to be able to resolve and get Rid of the emotions that were troubling you.
I have many ways of doing that. The solutions I suggest are not telling you how to live your life: I help you to work that out for yourself. The solutions are how to control your own mind and emotions, so you not only feel better about things, but you are in a much better state to be able to deal with them in the outside world. And whereas counselling can often take quite a long time or even be 'ongoing' (ie. not getting anywhere fast but the counsellor 'keeps trying' -and receiving your money) my work can often be very effective and surprisingly fast. I do in fact charge quite a lot more than most counsellors, but I believe that most of my clients get far more value in a much faster time.
Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy
Demystifying the myths and discovering the power of your unconscious mind.
Hypnosis is still very much misunderstood. Some people are still under the impression that it could be dangerous, others don't believe that it even exists (though are still illogical enough to claim that it is dangerous- how can it be if it does not exist?) and yet others think it is the magic bullet that will put them under a general anaesthetic and give them a brain or personality transplant and instantly solve all their problems without them having to take any responsibility for their own lives whatsoever! None of these are true, they are all totally false myths and misunderstandings.
What is true is that Hypnosis is a superb way (though not the only way) of accessing the wonderful power of your unconscious mind. You cannot be made to do anything that you don't want through hypnosis, but if you really want something, hypnosis will help to focus your mind so you are far more likely to get it. NLP Neuro-Linguistic Programming
Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a way of understanding the structure of how we think. We all think according to our five senses.
- We think in pictures, or imagination, ie. visually
- We think by remembering and imagining sounds.
- We think by remembering and imagining feeling sensations and also 'feelings' as in emotions
- We can also remember and imagine tastes and smells, especially when we are thinking of food
We also think in what could be counted as a 6th thinking mode and that is in words - talking to ourselves inside our minds.
When you start to recognise all the different sequences and combinations of how someone thinks, you start to realise why they are so good at what they are good at, and also how they have got themselves caught up in problems inside their own minds. NLP allows us to unravel the problems and make the best even better.
Because it is a study of how we think, it can include the thinking patterns that work in counselling and hypnotherapy as well as recognising and avoiding the patterns that do not work or get in the way. For this reason, all my counselling and hypnotherapy work is based on NLP.
EFT Emotional Freedom Technique and TFT Thought field Therapy
EFT and TFT both use acupuncture points and neurological stimulation to loosen up emotions and help them to resolve themselves. We do not use any needles, you simply Tap with your fingers on specific points to stimulate them. The neurological stimulation is done by rolling your eyes (sounds wacky, but something similar is used in the NHS to help trauma victims) and by humming and counting. The humming uses and stimulates the right side of your brain and the counting uses and stimulates the left. By stimulating them alternately, it seems to spread the problems out in a way that allows your brain to unravel them more easily.
TFT - Thought Field Therapy, was accidentally discovered by Dr. Roger Callahan, when he cured a woman of an intense water phobia when he got her to tap an acupuncture point to relieve a stomach ache. This is the original version. It uses short sequences of places to tap, so it is very quick, but it is also complex to learn which points and sequences you need for which situations. Paul McKenna uses this frequently on TV as it is so fast and effective.
EFT was developed by Gary Craig, an NLP Master Practitioner, who discovered that if you tapped all the points in an easy to remember sequence, it covered every situation and was easy for anyone to learn and use on themselves. The only drawback was that it takes a bit longer... A little bit too long for television. I use EFT with my clients so that they have already had a demonstration of how to do it. It still only takes a couple of minutes.
Psychotherapy
I have studied various forms of psychotherapy, including Jungian and Transpersonal Psychotherapy, David Gordon's Metaphor Therapy and read widely on others. I also received extensive work before coming across NLP.
Psychotherapy is good, though as with counselling, there is too much emphasis on getting into feelings and it often takes a long long time.
I now use many principles gained from Psychotherapy to enrich my work, so that my clients can benefit from the breadth and depth of Psychotherapy, while enjoying the speed and effectiveness and greater comfort and fun of NLP, EFT and where requested and appropriate, Hypnosis.
Psychology and CBT Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Although I believe that Neuro-Linguistic Programming qualifies as true, practical and effective psychology, I am not a 'Chartered Psychologist'.
Very few Psychologists are actually engaged in therapy. Most of the psychological therapists working in the NHS besides Psychiatrists (Medically qualified Doctors who usually prescribe psychoactive drugs) are either non medically trained counsellors or Psychiatric Nurses. Psychiatric Nurses and Psychologists working in the NHS usually use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This is effective to a point, though it suits an impersonal prescriptive clinical setting rather than the more flexible personal attention you can expect from a private practitioner.
I have studied a certain amount of mainstream Psychology and some of it has added to my store of resources. However, you will understand that I prefer the rapid, comfortable, effective and often even enjoyable techniques to be found in NLP, EFT and Hypnosis.
